Two-Phase O Romeo OTT Release Strategy Confirmed
Shahid Kapoor’s crime drama O Romeo is now heading to OTT after its theatrical run, with a structured digital rollout already planned. The film will first be available for rent on Amazon Prime Video starting March 27, allowing early access to viewers willing to pay an additional fee.
Following this, the film is expected to be released for all Prime subscribers in the second week of April, making it widely accessible without extra cost.
Theatrical Run Leads Into OTT Window
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O Romeo was released in theatres on February 13, 2026, and follows the typical 45–60 day theatrical window before moving to streaming platforms.
The film marks a reunion between Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor, a duo known for critically acclaimed projects like Haider.
Gritty Story Set in Mumbai’s Underworld
The film is a dark crime-romance set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s underworld, inspired by stories from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It follows a complex narrative of power, love, and betrayal as Kapoor’s character navigates a violent criminal landscape.
With a strong ensemble cast including Triptii Dimri and Nana Patekar, the film blends intense storytelling with stylized action.
Early OTT Access Comes at a Cost
The initial rental release means viewers who want to watch the film early will need to pay extra, a strategy increasingly used for big-ticket Bollywood releases. The wider streaming release in April will then open access to all subscribers.
Strong Anticipation Despite Mixed Reviews
While the film received mixed responses during its theatrical run, its OTT release is expected to draw significant viewership due to its star cast, dark theme, and the popularity of Shahid Kapoor’s performances in intense roles.
With its digital release just days away, O Romeo is set to become one of the next major Bollywood titles to transition from cinemas to OTT screens.
